our group got together friday morning (in the rain) to finish our letters and take the photos. first we went down to our spot but it was raining so we had to find somewhere else to go inside. we put them on the stairs with them "falling" down but the white letters were hard to see agains the cream wall so we moved to the black lockers and stood them up in front of the lockers with the "e" hanging out of the locker. then we went back to the outside place and the rain stopped! so we took the pictures that we originally wanted to take. then as soon as we were done it started raining again. talk about perfect timing with mother nature.
i still cant put my pictures up. HELP! i saved them in photoshop as jpg and it still wont work

finally done with nail clippers
i'm very glad to be moved on to a new project. i'm liking this one way more than the last project. it's fun to manipulate things on illustrator and see what you can come up with. but once again im having trouble coming up with ideas when i have been working for a while but i think im getting better at it.
my group's word is eliminate which is going to cost us a lot of money to make since its a long word but that gives us more possibilities to work with. i thought that we could put the letters on a cross walk on campus and then have the 'e' off the cross walk about to be run over by a car or bus. i though that was pretty funny but im not so sure how we could do that on campus during a busy day without all our letters getting run over. it will have to be a fast action shot.
p.s. not looking forward to it getting cold outside especially when we have class at 830 and its way colder out then than in the middle of the day. boo.

urban barn
The urban barn display in the gallery at the art and design building was interesting to me because it looked like a nice office building or place of business but was a barn. I also liked it because I am interested and thinking of majoring in architecture as well.
Progress in sketches
i think my drawing is improving. sometimes i get really into it and can come up with good ideas but other times i get very sick of drawing the same thing over and over again. i get in a rut and cant get out and its frustrating especially since i'm not an industrial design major. but i suppose this all has some purpose in the long run. i get that you have to come up with many ideas to get to the best solution (which is why mine are getting better) and be able to display that idea neatly on a board but when are we going to do other things rather than just designing and redesigning objects?
so we are pretty much done with the basic sketches but need to refine them now. i am having problems with texture as are many people in my class. also the functional characteristic is difficult because clippers are only good for a couple things...any abnormal ideas?

why interior design?
I am majoring in interior design. I became interested in interior design my junior year of high school. I always loved watching HGTV and all the home networks and decided to give it a go. I took interior design 1 and 2 in high school and loved it. I can't wait to get my degree and be able to design corporate areas first and then move into residence design.

IDEO Deep Dive
The deep dive technique helps your come up with random ideas that might lead you somewhere brilliant. Sometimes the most random ideas can spring from a web or a word list but its the outliers that make you think outside the box when designing an object. You must also think of the consumer. Who is going to buy your product? What needs do they have? There are many things to think about when designing or redesigning objects such as the function, price, durability, audience, and attractiveness of it. Getting other people's input is important. And asking a consumer. Asking them if they would first off buy the product, if so what they like about it or dislike and how it could be better so more people would use the product.
Good Design or Bad Design?
While interviewing five people I found that most of the people had the same answers. They all use it for holding and protecting DVD's and all agree the design could be better. Adam says "it's kind of hard to open, but it gets the job done."

10 Commandments
I'm not so sure I agree with Dieter Rams 10 Principles for good Design number 7 being long lasting- to avoid being fashionable. Design must be functional but still must be appealing to the eye or consumers would look right past it. Especially nowadays when most consumers want the most modern looking product. If it is long lasting and if the design is simple it will be fashionable for a long period of time.

Everything is Design
Design is in our everyday lives. What you wear, what you see, the car you drive, your bedspread, even the layout of our campus is inspired by design. Being a design student, I look at everything more in depth now. I wonder what the designer was thinking when creating the design and how it would effect those around it. Some designs are very practical, others targeted towards a certain audience. All of the aspects of design are very important and I look forward to learning how I can incorporate those aspects into successful designs.
